Hey y'all!
My name is Sarah and I’m a NOLA native currently living in Minneapolis, MN. It has always been my aspiration to have a career where I can make a difference. In 2002 I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes, and realized that living with diabetes had not closed any doors on me; instead more were opened. I saw this as an opportunity to work for a cause as close to my heart as a cause could possibly be. After learning about the Dogs 4 Diabetics program, I felt this was my calling.
I graduated from LSU A&M with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Technology, completed 2 unpaid internships at Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services in Columbia, SC and with Eyes Ears Nose and Paws in Carrboro, NC, then moved back to New Orleans to start the first assistance dog program based on positive reinforcement/humane training in LA. I realized that being a trainer at an organization that trained diabetic alert dogs was the best way I could make a difference in my community, so when the position was offered to me in Minneapolis, it was a no-brainer to move across the country for another amazing opportunity.
My days in Minneapolis are filled with local adventures, 6 am fitness boot camp or other exercise, working to create a successful team between a client and their service dog, walking as much as possible, finding endless wonder in the impact we have on the world, teaching group classes for pet dog owners, petsitting, and making bath bombs. A miracle with 4 paws named Nola makes my life complete as my Diabetic Alert Dog, whom I trained myself and is my inspiration.
My goal is to be blissfully dissatisfied, to always be proud of where I am, and excited to become a better version of myself while guiding others to do the same!
